Is the Razer Kishi worth the money?
My first initial thought when I saw that Razer, one of my favorite tech companies, released a new handheld mobile gaming device was pure excitement. More than just the brand but the level of quality would be as close to great as possible.
I’ve seen a few others searching on Amazon or googling options for about a week. Turns out, this was also available on Amazon for purchase at $90! We purchased a few and gave them a try.
My Kishi came just as it should. I purchased joystick caps for it so that we could all tell the difference during testing. After about 4 months of weekly usage, here's our results.
First, the elastic band. It isn’t very dependable and that’s simply because it’s elastic. It stretches often every time you insert or remove your phone. This doesn’t allow for an overall stable device after a few times of use. Using an iPhone XR, it’s reasonably large but a pretty decent size for the Kishi. Almost perfect. The elastic may last a bit longer if you’re using a smaller device. Accessories are also available that may enhance your gaming experience. Razer offers elastic bands which are sold separately. I wouldn't purchase another set if it's going to be a constant thing, so honestly, I would just buy an entirely new device. Now that doesn't mean that I'll buy the Kishi again... but that's for a later blog.
The kishi is not compatible with all games of course, but it’s also not compatible with most popular or trendy games either. I’ve tested a few games of all types of genres and only a handful were compatible. With that being said, not every game is 100% compatible as well. You may have most or some of your controls. You may be able to change your controller settings like you are with Call of Duty or Shadowgun Legends. If you really wanna know if the game you want to play with your Kishi is compatible, TEST IT. The Kishi offers a low latency direct connection USB-C for pass through charging while your playing. There are other platforms like android that Razer offers.
The way this device feels while playing is great for small or medium sized hands. Most men’s hands can use this device efficiently although we have noticed that of the device was a bit wider it would be perfect. But overall, this device would get an A for size. It’s also not very heavy so your kids can also use the Kishi with little to no problems.
Every button feels great to press, but they can be a bit loud depending which button you’re pressing. It isn’t any louder than any other modern day controller. The Razer Kishi comes in black and can be purchased on the Razer website or Amazon. Prices are subject to change but expect to spend $99.99 each.
Not to mention it can fit in any purse or bag that I own! I have been traveling with my Kishi and because it doesn’t need batteries and folds into such a small device, there’s no reason why mobile gaming would be an issue! I absolutely love the portability and the toughness because I am super clumsy… lol.
This would make a great gift for anyone!
